aMAIZING!

I LOVE teenagers kind of.
I was driving home today and called Parker
"What are you doing?"
"Oh nothing.  Just creating an event on Facebook."

"Oh"

Perhaps I shouldn't have just responded "oh."
Perhaps I should have asked more questions.

It's Homecoming this weekend.
A lot of the kids don't like to go to the dance.
Why?
Well without boring you or sounding pious,
here's a clip from the flyer that all the kids received about all the Homecoming activities, Spirit Days, parade, and dance -
"Students will get a bracelet when they
arrive at the dance. When found dancing
inappropriately they will be warned and
have the bracelet cut. If they must be
approached a second time, for
inappropriate dancing, they will be asked
to leave the dance."
Really!  I can't make this stuff up.

So Parker has created an alternative to the dance.
Yep - it's the Facebook event he was creating.
Good thing I'm his "friend" so I can see what is going on!

It's "An aMAIZING night of corn"
"If you dont want to go to homcoming or you just have a corn maze fetish then this is your kind of party. We will be meeting at my house at 7 then going to the corn maze at Chatfield. Tell your parents not to worry there will be no one who is EAR-responsible allowed. After the maze we will be returning to my house for food, games and whatever else you do at an after maze party. Sorry for the CORN-y jokes. Admission to the maze is $10"

I thought he was just going to the corn maze with a group of friends.
Evidently not.
It's a full fledged party and all of the food must be CORN-y.

It sounds disgusting to me but he wants........
CORN dogs
Caramel CORN
CORN chips and salsa
CORN on the cob
Candy CORN

This sounds like a lot of carbs....even for me!
Can we have veggie tray?
Can we make something in the shape of corn?

Whadda ya got girls (and boys)?

Suggestions?
Oh and can you come over and clean the house as well?

Would you still like me if..................?

It's STILL Skirtember
And I have to be honest, I'm getting SICK of it.  I wear a lot of skirts anyway....but not 30 days in a row.
So I am now only participating when I feel like it..........just like everything else in my life! ;)

* One thing I ALWAYS like to participate in is RaNDoM!  Who doesn't look forward to RaNDoM Thought Tuesday every week?
Thank heavens Stacy is still hostessing while Keely takes her eternal break!
Stacy
Go on over and give Stacy some love.........after you give me some love, of course!

* If you think Skirtember is bad, Homecoming week is WORSE!
Every day is some kind of Spirit Day.  Everyone likes Pajama Day, Sports Day and Spirit Day.
But "Would you still be my friend if......."Day?  What the heck kind of day is that?

What a stupid day!  I know kids would be thinking, "Would you still like me if...... I was gay?" "if I crossdressed?"  And other completely inappropriate teenage things.

Parker went as.........."Would you still like me if...........I was a vampire!"

* My family LOVES banana bread.  I think it's okay.  I love it with a tablespoon of butter slathered across a slice. But you know what totally rocks?  Banana Cake!!!  it's lighter and fluffier and comes with cream cheese frosting!!!  Now THAT'S something awesome for breakfast!  Well, any cake is awesome for breakfast.

* You know what is even BETTER for breakfast? Blonde Brownies!  Don't wreck it for me and say THAT'S NOT BREAKFAST!  Fine.......add a side of bacon!!!!  It doesn't get better!

I'm off to get me some of that breakfast!
Have a good one!

Roll Out the Barrel

Big Weekend!
Big Weekend for Parker.

I was just HIS cheerleader.

Friday was the first football game of the season.
Between 3 and 5 pm, Parker, his friend Dominique and I turned this -

into THIS
Then the new Flag Boys and freshly recruited Barrel Man Boy came over for training.

Normally, they go to a pre-game dinner with the cheerleaders but before the FIRST game, they go out for their own manly dinner and discuss business - the business of being a Flag Boy.

I went to the game with the sole purpose of taking pictures.
I went with the "good" camera, the "better" lens and a fully charged battery.
I did not go with a memory card.

Plus. we were playing a team who was going to KILL us.  They've won state the last THREE years and haven't lost a game since 2008. (When they lost to us.)
So when the score was 7 to nothing them, I left.

And then it got exciting...........of course.
We won.
It made the front page of the Denver Post.............
not because WE are that good, but because the other school hadn't lost in 34 games.

Anyway.........that necessitated a second dinner at 10:30 at night.
Then Saturday, Parker was out the door at 7:30 for the ACTs, then to the school for "Wall" decorating for Homecoming and then off to finish the Homecoming float that was "due" at 10 pm.

Oh........you'll get to see it ALL!
This week is Homecoming week and there is NO END to the fun!
I hope Parker crammed a lot of sleep into his Sunday nap yesterday because there will be A LOT of late night funness and celebration this week!

A Barrel of Laughs......or Something

PHEW!  It's Friday!
How come short weeks always seem like LONG weeks?
On Tuesday, I thought it was Monday. By Wednesday, I was convinced the next day was going to be Friday.
Imagine my disappointment when I woke up yesterday and it was Thursday?
But NOW, it IS Friday!!!!

Celebrate with me!
Go see Mrs. 4444 and defrag!
* It's only the 9th and I'm getting sick of Skirtember.
Or maybe I was just sick of it yesterday because I was crabby that it was Thursday instead of Friday.

* Tonight is our FIRST high school football game of the season!
It's always so exciting!
No, none of my kids PLAY.
Who wants to go out on the field and get killed when you can hang out on the track with all the cheerleaders.
Duh!!!!

Trammell - circa 2007

Garrett - circa 2009

 Parker - last year.
Yep! It's another year with a Cox as a Flagboy!

* What is this in my garage?
Parker drove from here to kingdom come yesterday to pick up this barrel for $6.50.  Why?
It was plain brown cardboard but after THREE cans of spray paint, it is this nice blue.  Why?
He decided they needed to revive the Barrel Boy tradition
and recruited someone to be the Barrel Man Boy at all the games.  But strangely enough, he didn't already have a barrel.  So of course, Parker decided to MAKE one.  The game is TODAY people!!!!!

* Isn't this a cute flower arrangement?
Someone sent this to Brian last week and it still looks this fresh!!!!

* I've been cleaning out some junk drawerS.  Yeah - we have more than one!  And I came across these -
Campaign buttons from Trammell and Garrett's student body campaigns............in middle school.
Good times!
The homework one wasn't a campaign button..........unless Garrett was campaigning against homework.

* Speaking of campaigns.   I don't get too caught up in politics here but what did you think of Obama's "Job's Speech?"  It sounded like the student body campaigns back in my childhood when the candidate would promise pop in all the soda fountains and I wondered how that was going to actually happen.  Nice ideas...........but how are we going to make them happen and with what money?

We actually DID have a female candidate for student council promise to get Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker dispensers in the girls' bathrooms.  I think I voted for her.  It never happened though.

Happy Friday!
Have a great weekend!

My Pioneer Clothes - REVEALED!

The moment you've ALL been waiting for -

PICTURES OF MY PIONEER CLOTHES!

Sorry to delay.
But as CRAZY as it sounds, I did NOT take ONE picture on the pioneer trek.
Yes, we took our camera, but we never had time to even get it out.

We did have two photographers with us and a videographer.
So I relied on them!

I just got the DVD with the 45 minute movie and additional 1,000 shots not used in the movie.
I WILL chronicle the whole trek..........but not today and not is one post.

Without further ado, I present.............
My Pioneer Wardrobe -

Day 1 - "Old" outfit from my last pioneer trek.  A nice combination of calico and gingham.  I felt a little bit like Dorothy though with the gingham.
Here......my hair is washed and everything is clean because it is 5:30 am and we are loading the buses.  We haven't even started yet.

Day 2 - Sorry - no front view of the really cute apron!!!

Crossing the Sweetwater River.  You bet I raised those skirts to by chin!!!  I DID NOT want to get dirty!
Day 3 - This became know as my "Fall' ensemble.  Oh, I wish you could see the cute brown skirt!

Women's Pull - Once again, I'm raising my skirt to protect from dust and dirt.  We all have our priorities!

Memories! Good times!!!!

Thanks to Margaret for the fabulous wardrobe!
Can you believe what a good friend she is to sew all these clothes!
That's LOVE!

Non Labor Day, First Day of School and Skirtember Continues

What?  It's Tuesday?
Well, according to Stacy it is.
If you don't believe me, go on over and see for yourself!
Stacy

Let's get RaNDoM

* So what if Trammell is a junior in college!
He had a "First Day of School" too.
And I made him take pictures and send them to me -
Here's a pic of his new room.  He loves his new condo and roommates.
* Skirtember is going strong.
Sunday - okay so it's a dress.  Dresses count!
Monday
Today

* Skirtember has been inspiring.
I've been inspired to shop.
I've looked at a million skirts online.

Some people have been inspired to make skirts.
I admit, I'm thinking about getting a sewing machine.

My friend Margaret – “I’m going to have to get sewing.”
Me: “Me too but you are going to have to do all of the work while I watch”

* We had a great Labor Day.
I love three day weekends!

Trammell hiked Mt. Timpanogos with a group of friends.
They left at 1 am and hiked in the dark so they could be at the summit and watch the sunrise.
They're young.
They can do stuff like that.
I would rather watch the sunSET OVER Mt. Timpanogos from the bottom of the mountain!
I know how to party!
I spent my Labor Day sleeping in, eating pancakes with buttermilk syrup, going to lunch and shopping.

* I am such a great mom!
After my strenuous Labor Day, I suggested we have Pecan Pie for dinner.

I even made a homemade one.
Parker scoffed at the idea and insisted on making ham and cheese omelettes with potato casserole and fruit.
What is wrong with him????
Normal kids would totally choose the pie!!!!

Well, go get RaNDoM!
