A is for Academic

Last week I dragged, bribed, threatened, cajoled made Parker go to his Academic Letter Ceremony.
There was much weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth.
And he DID have a point.

"Mom.........this is a complete waste of time.  I've gone every other year.  I can just pick up my letter and certificate in the Activities Office."

"No.  We are going."

"Mom, this is the dumbest thing ever!  It's a punishment to have to dress up and go back to school at night.  If they really wanted to reward us for academic excellence, they would let us STAY HOME and make all the kids who didn't get good grades go back to the school."

He DOES have a point.
You go to all your classes almost every day.
You do all the homework, study for tests and get good grades.
And then you have to stop long boarding doing homework, put on nice clothes and GO BACK to the school?

We did compromise.
He didn't dress up.
And he brought home 6 cookies.
Just two more semesters of awesome grades and he can go to ANOTHER awards ceremony!

Receiving his certificate

Paying attention so parents can take pictures

Parker and Brittany (who he has been in class with since kindergarten) serving cookies and punch

Parker flashing the 2012 sign.  I'm going to break those fingers before the end of the year!

I'm with Parker. At the end of the day, I don't want to have to go back out to do something unless it's amazing. Glad you guys compromised (and that's way more than I would have dressed up!)

Thank the Lord you were here to interpret. I had no idea what he was doing with those fingers. :)

Andrea - Thanks!
MB - So true! I wanted to go in pajamas....or not at all, but I didn't tell HIM that.
Julianna - Yeah, as long as the middle finger isn't involved! I have learned to make the 2013 sign so when he flashes 2012, I menacingly make the 2013 sign and say that he is going to become part of THAT class if he doesn't get his homework done.

Don't you hate it when your kids use logic against you? You don't know whether to be proud that they or so smart, or be mad that they are smarter than you. :)
