Yeah, yeah, it's what used to be my favorite day: RaNDoM THouGHT TueSDaY!
Stacy is such a good sport! She's still heading up the rebellion while Keely takes a 30 year break.
Be nice and go pay her a visit.
Click on that picture up there.
Maybe I should take a break because I'VE GOT NOTHING!
There's NO random here. There is NOTHING going on.........
except Pioneer Trek Preparations.
* With the pioneer trek just 8 days away, we DO have a FEW preparations going on here.
Can you believe we have been planning this 4 day trek through Wyoming for 15 months?
Just two minutes after emailing the FINAL list of attendees with bus assignments and "family" assignments,
I received an email teling me that two more people turned in registration forms.
May I mention that the registration deadline was JUNE 1st.
I'm not bitter.
I'm just sayin'!
* Brian and I went to 200 stores in search of a FULL air mattress. Not full as in inflated, but FULL as in full-size. Not a twin. Not a queen. Evidently, no one else in the universe wants one of those. I don't even want one. But it's the size that will fit in the back of my car.
Yeah, yeah.....everyone else on this pioneer trek is sleeping ON THE GROUND under tarp tents.
I'm not.
I have to be fresh.
I have to be on my game.
* I also bought a case of Red Vines and a 5 pound bag of mini candy bars to go in the cooler of Coke in my car.
I have to be fresh.
I have to be on my game.
* I cannot tell you how many details there are to planning a trip of this nature.
550 people dressed in pioneer clothes
hiking 25 miles in 3 days
cooking 9 meals in dutch ovens over campfires.
We have a huge committee.
I could NEVER do all this work or think of all these details by myself.
But seriously..........generators, 120 dutch ovens, nebulizers, 45 tents, 100- 5 gallon water jugs, refrigerator trucks, identifying flags, sounds sytems, first aid supplies, 8 buses..........
* Please don't let it rain.
Please don't let it be too hot.
Please turn off the Wyoming wind machine..........
except for a slight 5-10 mile per hour breeze.
Please make all the mosquitos die.
Please warn the rattle snakes that we are bringing 250 teenage boys and they should hide - the snakes, not the boys.
Please don't let anyone die.
Please don't let anyone be an idiot.
Oh........I'm asking too much!
* Margaret is at her house sewing furiously.
My pioneer wardrobe is going to be so cute.
And isn't that all that really matters?
And I have pink on my hiking shoes.
What more could I want?
* Last night, as Brian passed my office, he called out:
"Hey start a list of things we have thought about but still need to do something about..........
like...........we need to bring some kind of shield for people who need to go to the bathroom on the trail............
and toilet paper."
Can people just please use the porta potties and bathrooms that are set up along the trail?
When we come to them..........use them!
I beg of you!
That's kind of a lot of PIONEER RaNDoM!
Whatever you are doing this week, I'm jealous.

Amen to the chocolate and Red Vines!!!! Girl, you will be so glad you have them!
Is there ever a time when you are not fresh and on your game? I have never witnessed it...
I think that's just about the coolest thing; reminds me of Oregon Trail, the computer game. Only in real life. Have fun!
I am so jealous that you are doing this! I would love to be apart of it!!!! I am sure you will be happy when its over and no one has died or injured too seriously!!! Good luck!!!
What a trip! I hope y'al have a blast and the 250 boys don't get too idiotic for ya.
Here's rebelling with you!
Ooooh, I like your new book montage! I got the shelfari idea from you (i wish it would change the books displayed once in awhile as I have read several!). The more I read about the Pioneer Trek, the more envious I am...not necessarily that you are doing it (heat & mosquitoes make me shudder), but that you have the AMBITION to do it! I am trying to gather the energy to go post my random thoughts! Can't wait to see the costumes!
Come to think of it, I've only seen those mattresses in twin and double. Good luck.
Happy RTT!
Sounds like a hoot! We went to the Oregon Trail Museum in 2003 on our bike trip out west. It decidedly did NOT look like fun! (Says the lady that planning on doing the Appalachian Trail in a few years.)
Don't forget to post pics!
YES. Do what ever you need to to be fresh! :)
Lets see... finishing more of the basement renovation, working on wedding stuff, fitting a bride for her wedding (the weekend after mine) and making her veil, court with the exhusband (corresonding with day one of giving up sugar...again), birthday party on Saturday, Red Sox game on Sunday, and working. Always working.
Still jealous?
Ohhhhh! That Pioneer Trek sounds like it's going to be so AMAZING!! How FUN! Well, except for the mosquitoes and rattle snakes - and possibly the 250 teenage boys. ;)
PLEASE make sure you have mega battery power in your camera so we can live vicariously through you! :)
If that's 'nothing', then you put all 'nothing' to shame. I'm just sayin'. :)
Thanks so much for randoming up with me again! Hopefully you'll find a full size air mattress before you leave - genius not sleeping on the ground. ;)

I don't think the pioneers had porta potties or shields, so why not keep the experience authentic? For the kids, of course, not you! You NEED your air mattress and Coke and candy stash. Really, you need an RV, but I don't think you'll get away with that.
I can't wait to see these clothes. I've always had secret desire to dress up in civil war ballgownish stuff. I know not the same as pioneer clothes. Just saying, I get the excitement. The trekking through Wyoming us cool. I'm pretty sure I'd pass on the teenager bit though! Oh, and the snakes. I don't do snakes.
As for what I'll be doing, I'll be feverishly hoping for Internet at home so I can stop commenting via my tiny screen phone in which I make erroneous spelling mistakes.
Good Luck! It will be great, I am sure. My husband has been in charge of the last three pioneer treks in our stake and he is always totally stressed out over them until everyone gets home safely. I have heard of a few people getting killed on them, so that is always a risk, but so far we haven't had any tragedies. I am sure yours will be fine as well.
I love them, myself. I just go up the second day to be there when everyone comes into camp and then help with the activities and go home at night. Last year I did the shampooing and it was a blast. I am hoping I get that job next time (in three years) as well. Not exactly the same responsibilities you have. :-)
BEST OF LUCK!!
