Garrett's First Letter Home

Last week, we took Garrett (now Elder Cox) to the Missionary Training Center in Provo, UT.  He will spend the next 9 weeks learning Romanian and then he will take off to Romania for the remainder of his two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was excited and nervous when we took him.  Who wouldn't be?
I knew he was nervous and didn't know what to expect.  I knew he was worried about that he wouldn't be able to learn the language.
Since we dropped him off,
I have been praying that he would be comfortable there and be at peace.
Yes, I could pray that the language would be EASY.
But that wouldn't be fair to him.  I don't want to take any learning experiences away from him.

Here's his his first letter -

Thanks so much for sharing. That is a powerful letter and you can already see him losing himself in the work. If you get a chance send me his address at the MTC and we will shoot him a letter. Have fun in NYC!

What an amazing change this is from the smart alleck we usually see in your posts. Elder Cox. Whew.

That's so exciting that he's in the MTC now! I didn't realize that was happening so soon! I'm sure he's going to be a great missionary.

I'm sure you were excited and nervous too, just like Garrett. That first letter home must be so wonderful to receive!

I can't read the letter very well since I'm reading your blog on my phone (only way I get online anymore) but I know you must be very proud/anxious/nervous. He's a great young man with a good and slightly mischevious head on his shoulders. He'll do great.

And so will you.
