Eating Across Cambodia

Shockingly, the food in Cambodia was FABULOUS!
We didn't have a single "bad" meal.
First of all,
there are not a ton of "Cambodian" dishes.
They eat a lot of rice, stir frys, and fish dishes.
Because of their history, their foods have a strong Thai, Vietnamese, French, Indian and even Western influence.
There are a lot of curries and noodle dishes.
Menus are extensive!!!

For example,
breakfast was included with our room.
Our choices were -
baguette with jam and butter
croissant with jam and butter
cheese omelette with grilled tomato and bacon
eggs, bacon and toast
Asian noodle soup with vegetables and pork or beef
fried rice with chicken, beef or pork.

I usually had fried rice.
The boys usually had the Asian noodle soup.
Brian usually had the eggs or the croissant.
Everyone was happy!

EXCEPT THE BUTTER WAS HORRIBLE!!!!!
You know how important butter is to me!
It was New Zealand butter.
And I have to tell those New Zealanders, "Your butter stinks!"
It lacked FAT and it lacked SALT!
I love me some rich creamy salty butter!!!!
Okay - that is my ONLY complaint on the food end.
Can you believe it?

Almost every restaurant we went to had pages and pages of offerings.
We had chicken wings, curries, stir frys, pad thai, burgers, beef lok lak, pizza, fish amok, spaghetti, lasagna, cashew chicken, fresh fruits and veggies, and french fries.

We ate french fries at nearly every meal because they were SOOOOOO good.
They were so good because they don't give a darn about transfat and they still cook them in the best, most unhealthy fat ever - probably animal fat.
And THEY ROCK!
Best fries in the world!!!!!

The boys really wanted to try tarantula and I relented at a restaurant known for this delicacy.
I figured, that the restaurant wouldn't risk killing their patrons - the bad publicity would be horrible.

Several of the restaurants that we ate in were dedicated to getting children off the streets and training them in a career so that they could sustain themselves. The food was delicious.  The hospitality was wonderful.

One of the best parts of our food experience was eating ice cream every day - sometimes twice.

For a woman who has at least 18 pounds of butter in her freezer (true, I've seen it in person) that had to be the worst part of the trip. At least you made up for it with fries and ice cream. I could be starving and would still never eat a tarantula. Ugh just imagining the fur on them makes me gag.
